What Is Live Wedding Painting and How Does It Work?
If you’re here, chances are you’ve seen a live wedding painting somewhere online or heard about it from a friend, and you’re wondering what it actually involves.
If you’ve just come across live wedding painting, you’re not alone. Most couples I speak to have never seen one in person before they start looking into it.
In the simplest terms, live wedding painting is when I create a painting of your wedding day while it’s actually happening.
Now not to be confused with a painting done from ‘life’ a ‘live’ wedding painting is a painting performed live in front of the bride and groom and their guests, typically from a reference photo captured on the day.
So don’t worry, you do not have to sit there while I paint!!
While you’re getting married, celebrating, and spending time with your people, I’m set up nearby painting a meaningful moment of the two of you, captured from your day. Usually that’s the ceremony, the first kiss, or another moment that feels important to you taken typically when your photographer takes you away for photos.
What’s great about this is that I take up zero scheduling time from your day.
On the day, I arrive early (typically 2hrs before anything starts) to set up my easel and canvas. Once we’ve captured the moment together I work quietly and respectfully so nothing feels interrupted.
Guests often wander past, watch the painting come together, and ask questions. It becomes a lovely part of the day without taking attention away from you are your moments.
Most guests utilise this as a great ice breaker between one another and I tend to hear it being used to get to know people around them they would never of met before.
After the wedding, I take the painting back to my studio. This is where I slow down and really refine it. I focus on facial detail, soft light, values, tones and making sure the painting feels balanced and timeless. I don’t rush this part. The goal is to create a wedding painting you will love living with for years.
I come to live wedding painting with over a decade of experience as a professional artist, so I treat your painting with the same care and standards as my gallery & commission work.
